NBA/ Rap

I thought it would be cool to compare NBA players to Rappers, vice versa. I will take into account accomplishments, attitude, age, and skill level in relation to their particular game. Please note, this is my opinion, I could care less about what you think. Some people may have their own comparison and say things like "Is he crazy?" Write you own article then. Moving on.

Starting with the most obvious, this one was already done for me.

Jay-Z - Michael Jordan.

Jordan for now is the best player to ever live taking in to account personal accomplishments, team accomplishments, and his contribution to the game of Basketball. Jordan won 6 rings, made Scottie Pippen, and every one of his teammates the players that they became. I even give him a little credit for making Phil Jackson the coach he is. Jackson is by no means the best coach ever, but thats how he's viewed, largely due to Jordan. Jordan retired, tried something new, and came back.

Jay-Z, say what you want about Biggie, 2 Pac, Slick Rick, anyone. Whats the quote, "Men lie, women lie, numbers dont." Jay-Z has the most number 1 albums of all time. Not just in rap, in all of music. That huge for a rapper in a genre that is still very young and may be struggling with an identity crisis. Little fact, Jay-Z has never had a number one single. I know, weird right. It just means people respect the body of work. Both MJ and Jay-Z talk more shit than anyone in their respected professions. Jay-Z also retired. tried something new, and came back. Jay-Z makes everyone around him better as well. He made Kanye West. Whats the quote about Cam'ron? "The only time you went plat, my chain was on you neck and thats a natural fact." So since Jay-Z has shaped his career like Jordan, and talks about it all the time, it's only fair we give him the comparison.

Slick Rick - Jerry West

You know that little NBA logo your used to seeing, yea, thats Jerry West. If rap had a logo, I think it would be Slick Rick. If you listen to a lot of new rappers lyrics, you can tell they listened to Slick Rick. If you watch new NBA players, you can tell their game is modeled from Jerry West.

Lupe Fiasco - Rajon Rondo

Both very young, both very far from their prime. Both smooth operators. Lupe has a nice, ride that beat flow, and his voice almost sounds like a part of the beat. Rondo, what can we say about how smooth he is. Rarely turns the ball over. Both have been mentored by legends of the game. Lupe-Jay-Z, Rondo-Kevin Garnett. Both are very young. Both could rise to the top and be the best in their respective professions. One has a grammy, the other has a Ring. I'm looking forward to Lupe's next album, as I'm looking forward to Rondo's next playoff appearance.

Nas - Paul Pierce

I know I'm using Celtic comparisons a lot, but that doesn't mean they are wrong. Nas is arguably the smartest rapper we've ever witnessed. Some say Paul Pierce is the smartest basketball player in the NBA. He's known as a "crafty veteran." Pierce will always take the charge, and draw the foul. Grind out the win and not try and beat you by himself. Nas will always touch the topics no one else will touch, and he did beat Jay-Z in that battle. Nas has never been a sell out. Paul Pierce stayed with the Celtics when they were the worst team in the league. Both are extremely bad ass. Finals MVP, and a grammy. Both Hall of Famers.

Eminem - Kobe Bryant

Sorry but it had to be done. You can't ignore the body of work for either player. Eminem has done what no other rapper has done. Kobe has done the same. Both had mentors, Dr. Dre, and Shaq. Neither of them give a fuck what you think. Kobe is known as the best closer in the NBA. I'd say the same goes for Eminem. This guy, if he tried, would be the best. But he'll never try because he doesn't care. And he did murder Jay-Z on his own shit. Both are close to the end of great careers, but yet still riding out their primes. I'd say the longevity translates well for these two players.

KRS One - Magic Johnson

Both have done as much for their respective professions after retirement, same when they were in their primes. KRS may be the best lyricist ever. Magic may be the best ball handler ever. Both are still good even though they are old. KRS is better than 50% of the rapper right now, I'm willing to say the same for Magic.

Kanye West - Allen Iverson

This one is obvious. Attitude mostly links these men. Both my favorite of all time in both games. Kanye West sells a lot of records. Allen Iverson sells a lot of tickets. Kanye West found the way to make a huge impact in the game when Back Pack Rap, was not cool. Iverson found a way to impact the game being under 6 foot. Both have memorable press moments. Kanye and Taylor Swift, Iverson and his "Practice" press conference. Neither of these two can be team players. Both are fan favorites. Both are underrated and overrated at the same time. Both have made there "Idols" look stupid. Iverson crossed Jordan, Kanye did it on "Point Out the Bounce" with Jay-Z. Both need to shut their fucking mouths and do their jobs.

Kid Cuddi - Derrick Rose

I have high hopes for both of these little guys. Kid Cuddi has held his own with every feature his done, and I like he first album. He has a modern feel, while staying true to hip hop, very hard to do. Rookie of the year. Derrick Rose was already rookie of the year, and no doubt if his stays healthy will be a force. Both have impressed me with their body of work so far. A lot of work to go.

Young Jeezy - Josh Smith

Both guys have a lot left in them. Both scare the hell outta me. Both represent power. I like both of them and have no idea why. Jeezy can make you dance and think at the same time. Josh Smith with pull a jumper in your face, block the shit outta out, then power dunk in your face while you foul him. Both have the potential to be hall of famers, neither are close to being there yet.

T.I. - Carmelo Anthony

I have grown to love both of these guy in the past year. I thought T.I. was one of those club rappers that never said anything. I was wrong. The man says a lot, and does it very smoothly. I'd say he's the smoothest rapper since Biggie. Melo, I bought his shoes. I thought he was overrated and a ball hog. No and No. This guy is as smooth as they come. Both theres guys have the world in front of them, both will be in the hall, both are at the top of their game. T.I. may be in jail but his last album was his best. Melo just had his best season and his doing it again this year. Both are sure in's for grammy's and MVP's one day.

Drake - Anthony Randolph

Simple, everyone thinks they will be great, both are busts...simple as that. Both are having great starts, I don't think it will pan out for either one.

Jadakiss - Kevin Durant

Both are the most underrated in their games. Durant will grow out of it because he's young, I'm afraid it's Jada's fate. Both of these guy have the tools to be the best. They are both the complete package. Jada, makes hits, is deep, sells records, sick flow, not afraid of anyone, gets respect from his peers. Durant, takes it to the hole, shoots jumpers, play hard D, fast, strong, respected and is known as the leader of his team. Both are on shitty teams. Both have the tools to make their teams not so shitty.

50 cent - Shaq

Sorry Shaq. Really. Sorry. But you both scare me. You both dominated in your primes, and now you both need to hang it up. Shaq slows down every team he is on. 50 just can't do it anymore. Shaq's numbers have been falling, 50's sales have been falling. Quit, now. Please. Both will be in the Hall.

Ludacris - Chauncy Billups

Both hall of famers. Both are very versatile and creative. Both have a long body of work they can be proud of. Both are on their last few years. Both have paved their own way. Both are ugly as shit.

Andre 3000 - Steve Nash

Andre has been called the most creative and best rapper ever. Steve Nash has been called the most creative and best point guard ever. Both have huge resumes. Both can carry your team. Both seem to get better with age. I never get tired of watching Nash, or listening to Outkast. Both will be in the hall of fame. Both have 3 years left of greatness. Both are very crafty. Both could become the face of their respective games, but never will.

Mims - Stephen Curry

Both came in with a bang. Both have a lot of potential. Both are over looked. You look at Mims for " This is Why I'm Hot." Don't do that. Go buy the album "Guilt" then judge him. The guy is very talented, a personal favorite of mine, and misrepresents himself with his dumb ass singles. Mims is a back pack rapper and more lyrical than most rappers today. Stephen Curry is getting no attention because Brandon Jeninnings is taking it all. As well he should. Curry has game. Serious game. Watch him play. He's the total package. He will have a great career but I'm afraid his rookie contract will be wasted in Golden State, he will be on another team in a few years and thats when we can see the real Stephen Curry.

Talib Kweli - Ray Allen

The textbook. Kweli sticks to the book of rap, his gift and curse. Love him. But he's not exciting unless your a fan. Same goes for Ray Allen. Best shooter of all time hands down no question. But to some that is boring. Not to me. Both are hall of famers. Both had a great career. Both are close to the end. Both get respect from everyone. Both are stand up guys. Both have class. Both are great mentors. Both are still a threat for greatness even though they are older. Both are loved by most, and forgotten by the rest.

Thats it. Sorry if I left anyone out. Lil Wayne was left out on purpose because I hate him and wouldn't insult any NBA player by comparing then to him. So I didn't forget him, I just hate him and his fucking lolley pop.

LOST: Dead is Dead

Since this week’s episode Dead is Dead revolved around judgment day for the evil Ben Linus, I just had to make a guest appearance this week to give my review. I love the Red Sox to death, but when they play the Yankees it is a totally different anticipation when they come to town, this is kind of how I viewed this week’s episode, you just knew it was going to be a classic, and unlike some big sporting games that were highly anticipated, yet did not deliver the goods, Lost nailed this one as an ESPN classic. I mean having the Ben story is enough, but add in the most detailed information on good old Smokey, the story of how Ben kidnapped baby Alex, to what exactly happened to Penny and Desmond, and oh yeah the reason and way Charles Widmore was exiled from the island. So let’s get to break down one of my favorite Lost episodes yet.

Ben’s Flashbacks

It was awesome having classic Lost flashbacks throughout the episode and hearing the familiar whooooosh sound, I have missed them too much this season. Yet, more importantly, we learn really valuable information through these flashbacks. The 1st one centers on Charles Widmore riding bareback on his horse into the Others Camp right after Ben’s life was saved as a little boy from being shot by Sayid. Charles is very pissed at Richard for bringing Ben into the temple and saving him. Richard calmly explains while batting his eyeliner that simply Jacob wanted it done and that the island chose young Benjamin. This deflates Charles’ argument and concedes defeat as he enters the tent to have a talk with young Ben. Ben of course has no recollection of being shot by Sayid (as Richard talked about the consequences the previous episode). The main point in all of this is to reinforce Charles was indeed the leader of the Others during this period, which he had previously claimed
We then shift to a Ben in his early 20s with a young boy named Ethan, who Juliet delivered in the Dharma nursery back in the day and who of course would go on to kidnap Claire, hang Charlie, and ultimately get shot and killed by Charlie. They were sent by Widmore to exterminate the young Rousseau, who at this time has given birth to her baby Alex, after the rest of her gang, was killed off by Smokey. Ben surprisingly doesn’t know she has a baby with her, and shows a bit of compassion as he disobeys orders of killing Rousseau, instead taking her baby and telling her if she ever follows him he will kill her. This of course infuriates Widmore, who demands he kill the baby now. Ben refuses, saying Jacob would never want this, and if someone is going to kill the baby, Widmore has to do it. Well Widmore is a bad guy, but even he can’t kill a baby, as he leaves Ben in charge of raising her. Score another fight to Ben, get used to losing to him Charles.

Time skips ahead to the day where Widmore is exiled from the actual island. He is in handcuffs and is being led to the sub to take him off island. Here we learn his crimes. He has frequently left the island over the years, and fathered a child (Penny) to an outsider. These are big no-no’s in Other world I guess. This is where it gets interesting though, Ben claims he is taking his place because he would do anything for the island, make any sacrifice. Widmore points out he didn’t sacrifice Alex, and that the island wants her dead. Ben disagrees, saying only Widmore wants her dead, as Charles counters he better be right, or someday Ben will be in his place, being exiled from the island.

Finally, our last flashback takes us to the marina where Penny and Desmond are staying right before Ben boards the Ajira flight that returns him to the island. He calls Widmore telling him he is going to kill Penny, and marches off to the boat. Desmond recognizes him first, and Ben shoots Desmond (or so it seems, maybe the magical grocery bag he was holding was somehow in the world of lost able to deflect the bullet) and is prepared to coldly gun down Penny as well until he sees she too has a baby, little Charlie of course. Oh what a dilemma, the same situation presenting itself after all these years. It seems Ben has decided not to kill her after all, where out of no where Desmond form tackles him, beats him to a bloody pulp, then heaves him into the harbor, yikes!

Present Day (or 2007 in Lost time)

Ben finally wakes up from the beating Sun gave him with the oar to find Locke staring at him. Another reason why this episode ruled, Locke has been gone way too long, it is awesome seeing him again. Anyways, Ben is in full bullshit spin control, saying he knew Locke would be ok, blah blah blah. Locke listens as Ben explains why he killed him, that is was best for the island and the way to get everyone back to the island. They finally touch upon why Ben killed Locke right after stopping him at 1st from hanging himself. He says he got crucial information 1st from him that was essential. This of course is the knowledge that Jin had indeed survived (I have no idea why this is relevant) and that Eloise Hawking had been helping Locke to get back to the island. This leads to Locke and Ben agreeing on that Ben has to be judged, and that judge of course is the famous smoke monster. Oh boy here we go! So Ben and Locke proceed to take the canoe back to the old Dharma barracks but are interrupted by annoying Caesar, who thinks he is in charge around here. He won’t allow them to leave without getting some answers, so Ben (who previously stole the gun Caesar had) shoots him in the chest, ending that aggravating complication. Off they go and cross to the main island and reach the barracks to summon Smokey. At this point, Locke correctly guesses that Ben isn’t going to be judged on breaking the rules and coming back to the island, but more importantly for killing Alex. Ben knows he was given the choice of leaving the island by simply coming out of his house that time and surrendering to Keamy and the mercenaries, but he stayed inside, willing to sacrifice his daughter. Anyways, they see a light on in Alex’s old room and go to investigate, only to find Sun and Frank getting it on Dharma style, man that Sun gets around on poor Jin huh? Ok, that didn’t happen but we do learn some surprising things from them. They show Ben the old Dharma picture with the gang in it, and Ben acts genuinely shocked to learn that they are there in the Dharma Initiative. We also find out they are in the house because Christian told them to wait there for Locke, who would in turn take them to Jin. They believed this was impossible since Locke was dead, until they looked out the window and saw John. Well, Frank has had about enough of this and tells Sun he is going back to the Alcatraz island and wants her to go with him. Sun of course refuses, knowing this is her only chance of finding Jin. Frank warns her to be careful and watch her back, and takes off. This seems to be a bad decision because when he gets back to Alcatraz, he quickly learns the chick Illanya (who captured Sayid) has taken control with a couple of guys and have guns. They demand an answer of Frank to the question, “what lies in the shadow of the statue?” Frank of course has no clue and they knock him out, with the comment tie him up he is coming with us. Now earlier in the episode we saw Illanya boxing up a huge crate saying she was moving stuff. She is a very mysterious person, and we still haven’t found out who exactly she is working for, Ben or Widmore. I first thought it was Ben, in his attempt to get Sayid back to the island, but I wouldn’t be shocked at this point if Charles or some other mysterious character is behind her motives at this point.
Back at the barracks, Ben opens up his closet (we learn in the season 4 finale this is the way to summon Smokey) and crawls down a tunnel then drains a puddle, I kid you not to summon him. Well this doesn’t work as Locke then unveils his own bombshell, that he knows where Smokey is and leads them on a trek to this location. This drives Ben crazy, and further illustrates how their two roles have totally swapped. Locke used to be the one asking questions, having to blindly go where being led on faith, now Ben is in this role. Finally, they get to the outside wall of the Temple again (where Ben was brought to be saved and where Rousseau’s gang met their end). We learn the Temple is about a ½ mile behind the wall, and the wall itself was built to hide their temple. Yet, it isn’t the temple itself they are going to; it is the tunnel underneath the temple. Ben and Locke go down this tunnel, until Ben falls through the floor leading to another level. Here we see many clues of Egyptian influence; with symbols all over pillars and the walls (the statue we glimpsed earlier this year seemed to be Egyptian influenced as well). Ben approaches a structure with many holes in it, until the smoke monster pours out of these holes and engulfs Ben. Judgment day is on Biatch! As it engulfs Ben, it replays Ben’s interactions with Alex over the years, and learns everything. Suddenly the smoke disappears and Smokey manifests itself as Alex herself. Ben tells her how sorry he is, how it is his entire fault. Smokey/Alex isn’t fazed and pins him against the wall, saying it knows he wants to kill Locke again and if Ben hurts him at all, it will hunt him down. It also delivers the message Ben is to follow every one of Locke’s wishes and orders, but in the end, allows Ben once again to escape. That’s all I got, be sure to tune in next week, “Some Like it Hoth” tempers flare in the Dharma Initiative after young Ben disappears from the infirmary. Airs Wednesday April 15th, at 9pm on ABC…..peace.

Red Sox Season Preview

Over the next couple of days I am going to go over where the Sox players stand. Later I will go over possible moves, and what I think may happen. Special thanks to the Globe/Herald for the updates on the players' contract status.

Starting Pitchers:
Josh Beckett
Becket is signed through next season the Red Sox hold a club option for 2010. Next year he will be making 10.5 million, and the option (which they will almost certainly pick up) is worth 12 million. Beckett had a tough season, and he needs to get healthy, but what people forget is that he came into this season out of shape. I would hope next season he would learn from his mistakes. DP also made a good point, it seems like this guy has a good season every other year. I would expect that if he is to have a good year next year (which I think he will), that the Sox will sign him to an extension, probably 4-5 years in length.

Jon Lester
Best lefty in the AL, and the Sox have him tied up for very low money through 2012 (Awesome). Though I expect if he has another great year, that they will give him a contract to keep him happy. This kid has the determination, and stuff to be a great pitcher for the next 10 years. He doesn't seem to be injury prone, and looks like a guy that will be able to eat up innings. The best part is that he is a lefty, and great lefties are hard to find. Overall, Lester will be a Red Sox for a very long time.

Daisuke Matsuzaka
The Sox have signed through 2012 for about 9 million a year. Not a bad deal for the Sox at all. Dice-K had a great year record wise, but I think everyone can agree that they would like to see him let up more hits, if it meant he could extend his outings into the 7th inning (he just tries to be too perfect). Overall you can't complain about his season, and we saw a lot of growth out of him since 2007. So, hopefully that means he will be even better next season. If he could find a way to limit his pitches every inning this could be a guy that could throw a lot of complete games, as he is able to throw 120-130 pitches a game.

Tim Wakefield
As of right now the Wake is a free agent. The Sox hold a club option for next year worth about 4 million. I see them picking it up, since he still eats up innings, and he is a team leader. The only thing with Wakefield is that you need to have a starter behind him, because at some point in the season his back will act up, but for 4 million that's still a good deal.

Curt Schilling
Basically ripped the Sox off for 8 million, but whatever he got us two rings, and he is now gone. Most reports say that he will retire, but I expect that he will pull a Clemens and come back half way through a season. It will not be in a Sox uniform, and I would think most likely it will be to a NL team.

Paul Byrd
He is a free agent, and most likely he will not be back. I think the Sox are going to go after another pitcher, or try Clay Buchholz or Michael Bowden in the rotation. Still there is a part of me that thinks they could use a 5th starter that is durable and can eat up innings. Only problem is I don't like a guy who lets up a lot of hits, because at Fenway a lot of hits can be a lot of HRs very quickly.

Clay Buchholz
He is tied up much like Lester. Clay had a tough year, and I actually blame some of that on the Red Sox. They played with this kid too much, changing his arm angle, and pitches. I am starting to wonder if he can take the pressure of playing in Boston, and I have been hearing rumors of the Red Sox talking to the Rangers for a possible deal that would include Buchholz for one of their stud catching prospects. I will get more into that in a later post about possible deals.

JUSTIN MASTERSON
Just another young guy that the Red Sox have control of for a long time. Masterson is signed through 2014 for cheap money. He was a stud for the Sox this year, but I don't think that he will be a starter next year. They projected him, as he was coming up through the minors, to be a reliever, and I think that will be the Sox greatest concern going into next season. Masterson really improved that bullpen a lot at the end of the season. Imagine what he can do with another year under his belt.

JAVIER LOPEZ
Lopez is eligible for arbitration this offseason, and I think the Sox will bring him back next year. It is tough to get lefty relief pitching, and he can be very affective when used correctly. Hopefully the Sox will have a deeper bullpen next year, so they won't be forced to use him for more then one batter.

MANNY DELCARMEN
The Sox have Delcarmen under control through 2012. I have to say of all the players this year, I was most disappointed with Delcarmen. I really thought this was going to be his breakout year. He could still do it, but I am beginning to lose faith that he is going to be anything more then a average to below average reliever.

HIDEKI OKAJIMA
Okajima is signed through next season, and the Sox have to be happy to have this guy still on the team. He struggled for a good part of the season, but really turned it on at the end, and I think he will still be a great setup man next season (especially if it is a combo of Okajima and Masterson).

MIKE TIMLIN
Had a great career, but it is time to retire. He just had nothing left, and by the end of the season he was a 1 pitch pitcher. I'll miss him, but he should have retired a year ago.

JONATHAN PAPELBON
Paps is under the Red Sox control till 2011. One of (if not the) best closer in baseball, had another great year for the Red Sox. There are rumors that he may have injured himself at the end of last season, but I expect him to be fine. Still, the Sox need to find a way to use him less, and try to keep him to one inning (or not pitch him on back-to-back days). We have seen him have to be shut down if he is over used.

SEAN CASEY
"The Mayor" is now a free agent. Casey is an awesome clubhouse guy, but the Red Sox seemed to lose faith in him as the season went on. Eventually, Mark Kotsay took his spot on the depth chart. I think a lot of it had to do with Casey's lack of power (0 HRs), and below average fielding ability. Casey showed he can still hit for average (.381), and I think someone team would love to pick him up, just don't expect it to be the Red Sox.

KEVIN CASH
Cash is under the Sox control till 2011, and caught "The Wake" well in the field this year. Still, Cash gave little to no offense this year. I think he could be back, but a lot of that might depend on what the Sox decide to do with Varitek. My theory is no matter what Cash will be back, as long as Wake is on the team.

ALEX CORA
Cora is a free agent, and he is another player that might be looking for a new team next year. Cora is still good in the field, and does a lot of the small things for the team (bunts, sac flies, ect). The question will be what the Sox decide to do at SS. Boston would love to get rid of Lugo, but if they can't then there will be a lack of roster space with Lowrie and Lugo already on the team. Basically, if Lugo is still on the team, there is very little chance Cora will be back.

MARK KOTSAY
Its weird putting him as an infielder, but he played very well in the postseason at first. He is a free agent, but I would like to see him back next year. As long as he doesn't mind being a backup in right field and first base, the Sox could bring him back. Lowell and J.D. need a lot of days off, so he will get plenty of at bats. Most likely Kotsay is going to want to play everyday, so I think he will be gone. Yea, the Sox are going to have some holes to fill.

MIKE LOWELL
Mikey Lowell is signed through 2010 for about 12.5 million a year. He might have the most heart on this team. He showed he will try to battle through any injury to be able to play. Still, the problem is that he is getting old, and the Sox are going to have to make sure that have someone around that can eat up some at bats. I think he will be more productive next year, but the Sox have to be happy that they have someone like Youk that can shift over to 3rd when needed.

JED LOWRIE
Under the Sox control till 2014. He showed he can play in the big leagues. I think he is going to be starting next season, but the Lugo question still hangs over their heads. Lowrie is a solid hitter, that plays a lot of Pedroia. I think in time he could be a lot like Pedroia actually, but only time will tell if he gets the opportunity.

JULIO LUGO
Signed through 2010 with an option for 2011 for about 9 million per season. Lugo sucks, and the Sox once again find themselves in a position where they might have to eat his contract in any trade that they try. Lowire is 10 times the shortstop that Lugo is, and it seems like Lugo has even lost the ability to be a solid defensive replacement. I want him off the team so bad. There is not a single thing I like about him.

DAVID ORTIZ
Big Papi is signed through 2010, with a club option for 2011. He only makes 12.5 million a year, which is a steal if you look around the league. Ortiz struggled with injuries for the better part of this year, but hopefully his wrist will be better before next season. Still, the Sox can't bank on this guy being around forever. His knees are on borrowed time, so the Sox are going to need the bottom of the order to play a lot better. I still think Ortiz will be a solid 30 HR 100 RBI guy for the next season or two, after that I think you may be asking too much.

DUSTIN PEDROIA
The Sox have this guy tied up till 2012, but I think he is going to get a long term deal before the All-Star break of this coming season. I don't understand why he is so good, but he gets it done. Pedroia may even be the MVP for the AL this year, and the Sox have to be happy that they have a very productive second basemen for as long as they want him around (how many teams can say that?).

JASON VARITEK
The captain is a free agent, and most people are saying that he will be gone, but I'm not so sure. The players on the team love this guy, and there is a reason why the put the "C" on his chest (I hate it). I really hope he isn't back, but there is still something in the back of my mind that says he will get a 1 year deal. He calls a great game, but his offense has gotten to the point that he is an automatic out, and the Sox do not have the kind of lineup that can overcome something like that.

KEVIN YOUKILIS
Youk is under the Sox control till 2010. Most people don't remember, but the Sox actually approached Youk about a contract extension before last season. He turned it down, and said ti was way to low, then went out and had an awesome season. The season was so good that he may even be in the running for MVP with Pedroia. Youk works hard everyday, he gets on base, and plays great defense. He even showed he can hit for power this year. Not to mention the fact that he can also play first. There is a good chance he will also be getting a long term deal before next season ends.

NBA Breakdowns: East

Charlotte Bobcats

Offseason Moves:
• Signed Okafor to a six-year, $72 million contract.
• Drafted D.J. Augustin and Alexis Ajinca.
• Signed Shannon Brown and Mike Wilks.

MJ was a great player, but running a team, not so much. The biggest question was him drafting D.J. Augustin even though they have Raymond Felton. Most of his draft picks Sean May, Adam Morrison, and Felton have not worked out to well and this team has been and will be stuck in the cellar of the NBA for years to come. They at least committed to Okafor which is a good move because you can't find good centers anymore. They are strong on the wings with Jason Richardson and Gerald Wallace but other than that, they suck. Everyone is injury prone and they don't seem to be gelling together well.

22-60

Heat

Offseason Moves:
• Drafted Michael Beasley and Mario Chalmers.
• Let Jason Williams go, re-signed Chris Quinn for two years, $2 million.
• Let Ricky Davis go, re-signed Dorell Wright for two years, $5.5 million.
• Signed James Jones to a five-year, $23 million deal.
• Let Earl Barron go, signed Jamaal Magloire.

The Heat are a very interesting team, they have a lot of talent but will they gel well. They are going into the season with Marcus Banks, Dwayne Wade, Michael Beasley, Shawn Marion, and Mark Blount and that isn't bad to say the least. If Wade stays healthy, Beasley is the player he was in college and Marion isn't a shithead this team could be very good. Their biggest strength is speed, they have a lot of fast guys on the court to make them almost the Phoenix Suns of the East, if the run and gun works, they can put up a lot of points. It is really to predict this team, so I am gong to take the cowards way out and predict them to be a playoff team with a 42-42 record.

Magic

Offseason Moves
• Drafted Courtney Lee.
• Let Maurice Evans go, signed Mickael Pietrus to a four-year, $23 million deal.

This team scares the hell out of me. I hate teams with a good big man and everyone else being a good deep threat. Going into the season they have Jameer Nelson, Michael Pietrus, Hedo Turkoglo, Rashard Lewis and Dwight Howard. This team has a ton of talent but their most glaring weakness is interior defense, if a team has a good PF and C and can run a high low game Rashard Lewis wont be able to guard a big man. I think this team will definitely be in the playoffs and be a force to be reckoned with in the regular season.

46-36

Bulls

Offseason Moves
• Let Chris Duhon go, drafted Derrick Rose and Omer Asik.
• Signed Luol Deng to six-year, $71 million deal.
• Re-signed Ben Gordon.

Last year the Bulls were a team that had loads of potential and disappoint. The Bulls strengthened their front court in the draft of Derrick Rose. Everyone says he is the next big thing, but I don't see it. They have all these college stars in Aaron Grey, Tyrus Thomas, Joakim Noah, and Drew Gooden and they all suck and are busts. Maybe Larry Hughes, Luol Deng, Ben Gordan and Kirk Hienrich can all gell together and gain some momentum, but I don't think so. Expect another disappointing season from them and maybe a fire sale.

36-46

Pacers

Offseason moves:
• Traded Jermaine O'Neal to Toronto for T.J. Ford, Rasho Nesterovic, Maceo Baston and a first-round pick.
Let David Harrison go, drafted Roy Hibbert
• Drafted Jerryd Bayless; traded Bayless and Ike Diogu to Portland for Jarrett Jack, Josh McRoberts and Brandon Rush.

I like what the Pacers did this offseason. They got rid of Jermaine O'Neal who was injury prone and just not playing for them anymore. They added Jarrett Jack, Roy Hibbert and Brandon Rush. This is a good young team who will be fun to watch and if Ford can stay healthy all season they might surprise some people in the east. Hibbert will need a couple of years and Brandon Rush will average around ten points around a season.

Around .500

Pistons

Now we are moving to the Central Division in the East and moving to the Detroit Pistons.

Offseason moves
Signed Kwame Brown to a two-year, $8 million deal.

They are basically the same team they have had forever. Billups, Prince, Wallace, Hamilton, and Mcdyess. But the window is closing for the Pistons. The Biggest question is have teams figured them out and is their game plan not working? I think yes. The Pistons did nothing all of the offseason and if you think Kwame Brown is a good player and worth 8 million dollars you are wrong. He is flat out terrible. Rodney Stuckey, Arron Afflalo and Jason Maxiell are the only real young players but that is it. They still will win games and be tough on offense but I don't see it this year for the Pistons.

50-32

Knicks

offseason moves:
Mike D'Antoni (coach)
Drafted Danilo Gallinari, acquired Patrick Ewing, Jr
Signed Chris Duhon to a two-year, $10 million deal
Traded Renaldo Balkman for nothing

I don't like this team now or in the future. They are a terrible team and with douches like Stephon Marbury, Zach Randolph, and Eddy Curry on the team you are not going to win. The role players Nate Robinson and David Lee are never utilized in the way they need to be to expand as players. Also, I question D'Antoni's move to draft Danilo Gallinari over Jerryd Bayless, Eric Gordan or D.J. Augustine. I just don't trust any foreign players and especially pussy Italians. Also, signing Chris Duhon got heavily overpaid and was never really that good anyways. Jamal Crawford is the only player I like on this team and he isn't enough to do anything.

Obviously mike D'Antoni will do a better job than Isiah Thomas, but the Knicks will still go 24 and 58.

Raptors

Traded T.J. Ford, Rasho Nesterovic, Maceo Baston and a first-round pick to Indiana for Jermaine O'Neal
Obviously adding Jermaine O'Neal makes this teams front court one of the scariest teams on paper. If O'Neal can stay healthy and hasn't lost a step, him and Chris Bosh will have a very good high low game. Point guard Jose Calderon had an absolute breakthrough season last year and is the reason why the Raptors could afford trading T.J. Ford. The Raptors are one of the most fundamental teams in the league and can be a tough team to beat during the regular season.

record: 48-34
playoffs, but don't make it far.

Bucks

Offseason Moves
• Traded Yi Jianlian and Bobby Simmons to New Jersey for Richard Jefferson.
• Gave Andrew Bogut a five-year, $60-million extension.
• Signed Tyronn Lue to a one-year, $2.2-million deal; signed Malik Allen to a two-year, $2.6-million deal; signed Francisco Elson to a two-year, $3-million deal.
• Drafted Joe Alexander and Luc Richard Mbah a Moute.
• Traded Mo Williams to Cleveland and Desmond Mason to Oklahoma City; received Damon Jones from Cleveland and Luke Ridnour and Adrian Griffin from Seattle.

They certainly were movers and shakers all offseason but I don't know how much they improved for this season. They have a million SFs, Richard Jefferson, Michael Redd, Charlie Bell, and Joe Alexander and I don't understand how that is going to work. Their biggest weakness is frontcourt depth, Behind Bogut and Villanueva they have no one, except for Dan Gadzuric and he blows. Even with all these moves I don't think we will be seeing more than 23 wins.

23-59

Cavs

Offseason Moves:
• Traded Joe Smith to Oklahoma City and Damon Jones to Milwaukee for Mo Williams.
• Drafted J.J. Hickson and Darnell Jackson.
• Re-signed Daniel Gibson to a five-year, $21-million deal.
• Re-signed Delonte West to a three-year, $13-million deal.

I really like the Mo Williams deal and believe he is an extremely solid wingman. I also like the re-signing of Delonte and Daniel Gibson, but they are all extremely similars players. They are going into this season with a starting line-up of Mo Williams, Delonte West/ Wally, LeBron James, Ben Wallace and Big Z and on paper that's not bad, but it's not that great. I trust LeBron will be able to do what he does every year and bring his team to the playoffs, but I don't trust Delonte, Wally, and Pavlovic will be able to make it all year without getting injured. I like the draft pick of J.J. Hickson and if he can make any type of impact down low, that will help them out a lot.

50-32

Boston Celtics

Now it is my pleasure to breakdown the Boston Celtics. Minus James Posey this team is relatively the same. A year older but the same. The additions of draft picks J.R. Giddens and Bill Walker along with free agent signings of Patrick O'Bryant and Darius Miles help shape out this years roster.

The questions surrounding this team are:
Who is going to replace James Posey?
The answers are Tony Allen, Bill Walker and J.R. Giddens.

Tony Allen finally he has his brace off of his injured knee and is ready to fly high. Tony is a defensive minded player who can pretty much guard any 3-1 and is a cutter on offense. Him along with Rondo are the only two who I believe can make it to the basket at will.

Bill Walker could have been a 1rst round lottery pick if not for getting injured and being overshadowed by Michael Beasley. Walker is another high flyer and can knock down some shots from the perimeter. He is very athletic and wide so that will make it tough for people to puch him around on defense.

J.R. Giddens is another guy who had lottery potential if he wasn't involved in some knife fights in college. Getting some good role models in KG, Paul, and Ray definitely have me not worried about his off court issues. He is another high flyer who is instant offense. He has been saying from day 1 he is going to work on his defense and I believe him.

What can Darius Miles do?

Once Darius Miles was the best dunker an maybe best athlete in the NBA, but that is about it. He can score in bunches but is very inconsistant offensively. He is a veteran and seems to be working very hard at improving his game. If he is close to the player he was before the injury, this might be a steal.

What can Patrick O'Bryant do?
Patrick O'Bryant is starting to be called a bust, but I think he will be able to turn it down. When he was playing for Golden State that team was always pushing the ball and it is hard for a big man to adjust to that. He is huge and athletic, so I will label him as a guy who will be raw offensively but will be a factor on defense. He can block shots, and with Perk banged up, he might fit in nicely.

With the core of KG, Paul Pierce, and Ray Allen I expect nothing less than a repeat. They all have the intensity and drive to do it again and it wont be hard if they stay healthy. There are no more questions about the back court as Rondo has established himself as a good PG in the league. We also have a lot of depth behind him in Eddie House, Gabe Pruitt and Sam Cassell. Also, Perkins is what he is. A huge body that can play defense and If O'Bryant works out, we will have Perk, O'Bryant, Powe, Davis, and of course Scalabrine as big men.

Prediction 62-20

Nets

Offseason moves
Yi Jianlian and Bobby Simmons for Richard Jefferson
Brook Lopez, Ryan Anderson and Chris Douglas-Roberts draft
Kenyon Dooling

Even though the state they play in blows donkey balls, they did all the right things this off season. The Nets not only got younger, but emptied a lot of salary cap for LeBron James in 2010. I like PG Devin Harris a lot and believe he can grow as the starting point guard for the Nets. No one stil nows what Yi can do, but he can at least be a Raef Lafrentzesk guy at best. There draft rocked, Brook Lopez might have been the best big man in the draft and Ryan Anderson can stretch defenses and CDR might have been the steal of the draft. I don't believe this team will be able to win now, but is set up for a bright future, much like the Portland Trailblazers. I think they will go 30-52 and miss the playoffs.

76ers

Offseason Moves

Signings:
Elton Brand
Marreese Speights
Royal Ivey
Donyell Marshall
Kareem Rush
Theo Ratliff

The Sixers did a ton of moving and shaking this offseason and all of it looks extremely good now. On paper. Philly comes in with a core of good young players that include Andre Iguodala(24), Thaddeus Young(20) and Louis Williams(21) and those three all have another year under their belt. The Addition of Elton Brand is adding another veteran to a squad who has Andre Miller(who is the most underrated point guard in the league)and an excellent low post presence. The only weakness I see this team having is shooting. This team has a bunch of guys who can ball, but necessarily have the best shots. I expect the 76ers to make the playoffs and finish 2cnd in the Atlantic with a 48-34 record.

NFL Team Previews

Buffalo Bills

2007 Record: 7-9

Key Additions:
Leodis McKelvin (CB) - Draft - Troy
James Hardy (WR) - Draft - Indiana
Marcus Stroud (DT) - FA - Vikings
Kawika Mitchell (LB) - FA - Giants

Key Losses:
Peerless Price (WR) - FA - Not Signed

Offense:
Lynch is a great running back, but he needs help from the QB position if he wants to take it to the next level. No QB on the Bills had more TDs then interceptions, and that just won't get it done. I don't really believe in any of the guys they have at QB either, but they did improve their WR core with the drafting of James Hardy who I think will be a stud, especially since he will be across from Lee Evens. Basically this is a good offense with no QB, but will this be the year that either Trent Edwards or bad boy J.P. Losman can come through. My prediction is that they stick with Edwards and he will cost them their playoff hopes.

Defense:
In short the Bills defense is stacked. They have always been good at getting to the QB, but have also always have problems stopping the run. Marcus Stroud in my opinion is one of if not the best DT in the NFL, and he will stop those run stopping problems. Their linebacking group is not the best, but with an incredible defensive line, they will look a lot better than they actually are. The secondary is underrated, and the drafting of McKelvin will only help their cause. I am a firm believer in teams that have strong defensive lines will have a good defense/year (i.e. Giants, Patriots, Jags, so on).

2008 Predicted Record: 8-8

Miami Dolphins

2007 Record: 1-15

Key Additions:
Jake Long (T) - Draft - Michigan
Philip Merling (DE) - Draft - Clemson
Chad Henne (QB) - Draft - Michigan
Josh McCown (QB) - FA - Raiders
Jason Feruson (DT) - Trade - Cowboys
Ernest Wilford (WR) - FA - Jaguars

Key Losses:
Anthony Alabi (DT) - FA - Chiefs
Marty Booker (WR) - FA - Bears
Trent Green (QB) - FA - Rams
Zach Thomas (MLB) - FA - Cowboys
Cleo Lemon (QB) - FA - Jaguars
Kerrick Pope (LB) - FA - Vikings
Lance Schulters (SS) - FA - Not Signed
Samkon Gato (RB) - FA - Not Signed
Jesse Chatman (RB) - FA - Jets

Offense:
Another AFC team that isn't sure who their QB will be next year. Not a lot to choose from here either; Chad Henne (sucks), John Beck (not sold on him), Josh McCown (their best short term option). So, with just that problem I don't see this team going very far. Then we move on to the running back potion and they still have questions there as Ronnie Brown is coming off injury problems, though he looked so good before he went down. The WR on this team are just terrible, and that drafting of Ted Ginn Jr. a year ago is really coming back to hurt them, because he sucks and is nothing more than a 4th WR and/or special teamer.

Defense:
With Jason Taylor not out of here the defense is not looking very good either. I know everyone likes to suck Parcells dick, but I don't see him being able to turn around this squad of misfits anytime son. Ferguson is a solid player and will strengthen front of their defense, but they just don't have enough skill players to really make anyone care about this team. The defense is going to be the field all game long because they offense is so terrible, that no matter what they team is in for another horrendous year.

Predicted Record 3-13 (only because they have a very weak schedule)

2007 Record: 16-0

Key Additions:
Jerod Mayo (LB) - Draft - Tennesse
Terrence Wheatley (CB) - Draft - Colorado
Scott Player (P) - FA - Browns
Marcus Pollard (TE) - FA - Seahawks
Victor Hobson (LB) - FA - Jets
Fernado Bryant (CB) - FA - Lions
Tank Williams (S) - FA - Vikings

Key Losses:
Rosevelt Colvin (OLB) - FA - Texans
Eugene Wilson (FS) - FA - Buccaneers
Asante Samuel (CB) - FA - Eagles
Randall Gay (CB) - FA - Saints
Dante' Stallworth (WR) - FA - Browns

Because this is the Patriots I am going to go more in depth with this preview:

Offense:

QB:
Tom Brady is one of the best in the NFL, and maybe one of the best in the history of the NFL. He is coming off a career year, and really as long as he doesn't get hurt the Patriots will be in contention for the Super Bowl every year.

RB:
Well this is it for Maroney. If he is going to do anything in the NFL he is going to have to do it this year. He has all the talent in the world, and is in one of the best offensives in the NFL. He just has to stop dancing in the backfield. Morris was awesome last year before he got hurt, but can he come back and do it again? I really wouldn't be surprised he he could, and he seems to fit the Patriots style more then Maroney. Kevin Faulk is a great 3rd down back, but will probably be suspended for the first couple of game because of getting busted with pot.

WR:
The Patriots lost Stallworth, which could hurt Welker if they can't get someone else to be a deep threat (other than Moss). Randy is one of the best WR the NFL has ever seen, but he is a headcase and could always explode, still I think the Patriots have enough veterans in the locker room to keep him in line. The big question is who will play opposite Moss. Welker is great in the slot, so it will be down to Jabar Gaffney and Chad Jackson to battle it out. I like Chad Jackson a lot, but he is very injury prone, and Gaffney is very solid so unless Jackson can prove a lot during the preseason games Gaffney will be the man.

TE:
Watson is really good, but needs to be more consistent. He seems to get hurt a lot, but with all his skill it's just a matter of time.

Offensive Line:
They were great till the Super Bowl, but now everyone is questioning them. Still I think they are very solid, and that this will fix whatever problems were caused by the Giants. People forget that the Patriots had three Pro Bowlers on their squad (Koppen, Mankins, and Light). Expect this offensive line to come out with a chip on their shoulders in 2008.

Defense:
DL:
One of the best in the NFL, and could actually be better this year if Seymour plays up to his potential. Belichick said that Wilfork is the best defensive player that he has ever coached, and even though I thought that was a very bold statement, he may have not been too far off. Warren is probably the most unrated of the bunch, and Jarvis Green can great off the bench to give them a spark. Look for these guys to be at the top of the NFL once again.

LB:
There are some questions here, but the Patriots are very high on Mayo and think that he can control that MLB position with Bruschi. Teddy is getting older, and looked terrible next year, so I expect to see a lot of Vrabel/Thomas/Hobson rotating in his spot next to Mayo. If somehow Bruschi could just pull it together for one more year than the Patriots OLB look really good with Vrabel and Thomas, but they are not very deep in the positions so there is no room for injuries.

CB:
A lot of people are freaking out about the loss of Samuel, but I am really not that afraid. I think Bryant is a solid player, and that the DL will make them look good (just like the Giants in the Super Bowl). I like Hobbs a lot, even though he wasn't very good in the playoffs, and if Terrence Wheatley can be a solid player than I don;t think this will be as big of a problem that everyone seems to think it will be.

S:
Well Wilson ran out his welcome, and I am not sold on Sanders. I would really like to see Mariweather eventually take that FS spot, but he is built more like a SS. Harrison is great for run stopping, but is showing his age in the passing game. Hopefully the Pats can squeeze one more year out of him, but I really think this could be the weakest spot of the Patiots Squad.

Overall:
The Pats are in a shitty division and have a weak schedule, so the will definitely be in the playoffs. They will not however go undefeated, which isn't a bad thing. Still I expect the Patriots to lose no more than 3 games, and anything less than a Super Bowl victory would be a disappointment.

Predicted Record: 14-2

2007 Record: 4-12

Key Additions:
Kris Jenkins (DT) - Trade - Panthers
Alan Faneca (G) - FA - Steelers
Calvin Pace (DE) - FA - Cardinals
Damien Woody (C) - FA - Lions
Tony Richardson (FB) - FA - Vikings
Jesse Chatman (RB) - FA - Dolphins
Bubba Franks (TE) - FA - Packers
Vernon Gholston (DE) - Draft - Ohio St.
Dustin Keller (TE) - Draft - Purdue

Key Losses:
Justin McCareins (WR) - FA - Titans
Victor Hobson (LB) - FA - Patriots
Wade Smith (OL) - FA - Cheifs

Offense:
The offensive line is a lot better so Thomas Jones should have a much better season after a disappointing 2007, but they are still so weak at QB that I don't think he will be able to hit on all cylinders. Pennington is terrible and can't throw the ball more than 25 yards, so they should really just give up on him, and go with Clemens. I am not completely sold on Clemens, but this such an improved offensive line he should have as much time as he needs to find his WRs. Tony Richardson was a nice addition to this offense, especially in the running game.

Defense:
I really like this defense a lot. Kris Jenkins is a beast, and I hate that the Patriots have to go against him twice a year now. Calvin Pace was an underrated signing, and he could really help this defense get some pressure on the QB. Ghloston may have been the best player coming out of the draft, and if may take a year or so, but he is going to be a stud. Watch for this defense to be one of the best in the league.

Overall:
After a disappointing 2007, I expect this team to be able to turn it around (even though I hate them). The Jets had one of the best off-seasons in the NFL, but the lack of a QB will still hold this team out of the playoffs (unless they get someone new).

Predicted Record: 8-8

2007 Record: 7-9

Key Additions:
Keith Rivers (LB) - Draft - USC
Jerome Simpson (WR) - Draft - Coastal Carolina
Ben Utecht (TE) - FA - Colts
Doug Gabriel (WR) - FA - Raiders

Key Losses:
Madieu Williams (CB) - FA - Vikings
Justin SMith (DE) - FA - 49ers
Chris Henry (WR) - FA - Not Signed (Thug)

Offense:
The Bengals were a team on the rise not too long ago, but now seem to have a never ending list of problems. It starts with players getting arrested everyday, now Chad Johnson is being a douche, and who knows if he will ever stop. The Bengals are kind of in the the "they are doomed if they do, doomed if they don't" situation right now. If they get rid of Johnson they will be losing one of the most talented WRs in the league, and it seems they will get little in return. If they keep him it sets a bad example to the rest of the team, and will be a distraction all year. Beyond him the Bengals have other questions, like can Rudi Johnson come back in the a top RB in the NFL that he was not so long ago? I think he can be a solid back, but the Bengals really need Chris Perry to finally be the running back they thought they drafted. Carson Palmer is (in my eyes) a great QB, but there are just too many questions and uncertainty for him to be as good as he can be.

Defense:
In short...It sucks. Marvin Lewis was brought in a defensive expert, and he has done very little to improve this defense. Now they have lost their best defensive lineman in Justin Smith, and I just see another year of the Bengals getting burnt repeatedly.

Overall:
This team is a mess, but it still have some fire power on offense that will win them some games. It is a shame that Carson Palmer is being wasted, but if they can't get it together this year look for Marvin Lewis to be fired by the end of the season. They also have a very tough schedule, so all signs point to a terrible season.

Predicted Record: 5-11

2007 Record: 10-6

Key Additions:
Shaun Rogers (DT) - Trade - Lions
Donte' Stallworth (WR) - FA - Patriots
Corey Williams (DT) - Trade - Packers

Key Losses:
Bobby Hamilton - FA - Not Signed
Ted Washington - FA - Not Signed

Offense:
One of the most dangerous offenses in the NFL last year may be even more so this year with the additions of deep threat Donte' Stallworth. Even though I hate Braylon Edwards, he is one hell of a reciever, and Joe Jurevicius is very uderrated. Kellen Winslow is a douche, but can catch the ball, so all these things add up to a Browns QB having a hell of a year. Once again it looks like it's going to be Derek Anderson. I thought it was a mistake to resign him, because I actually believe in Brady Quinn (even though I also don't like him), but with this offense it won't matter.

Defense:
As good as their offense was last year, there defense could not hold their own and that's why they didn't make the playoffs. Their hopes this year lie in the two defensive tackles they traded for this year (Rogers/Wiliams). If those two can get pressure on the QB then it will make thiere secondary better. The problem is that thier secondary is terrible. They may be able to stop the run this year, but they will stil get lit up in the passing game.

Overall:
Looks like more of the same from the Browns, a lot of TDs for them and the teams they play. It will be tough to get back to 10-7 with thier schedule, but I don't seem them being too far off. No matter what they will be an exciting team to watch, with plenty of fantasy firepower.

Predicted Record: 9-7

2007 Record: 5-11

Key Additions:
Fabian Washington (CB) - Trade - Raiders
Brendon Ayanbadejo (LB) - FA - Bears
Joe Flacco (QB) - Draft - Delaware
Ray Rice (RB) - Draft - Rutgers
Tom Zbikowski (SS) - Draft - Notre Dame

Key Losses:
Mike Anderson (RB) - FA - Not Signed
Steve McNair (QB) - Retired
Devard Darling (WR) - FA - Chiefs

Offense:
Baltimore have a new offensive coordinator this year in Cam Cameron, who will try to use the West Coast offense. The Ravens do not have very many deep threats, so look for Todd Heap to have a very big season. The question with this team (as it has been for many years) is who will be the starting QB. Kyle Boller showed signs of improvement, but he has let this team down so many times that I doubt they will travel that road again. During the 2008 draft the Ravens selected QB Joe Flacco, who has a rocket for an arm, but only played I-AA football at Delaware. Could they be one of the teams that will take a serious look at Favre? No matter what, QB will be a big question mark in 2008. What won't be a question is the running back position. Willis McGahee is a stud, and now that they drafted the talented Ray Rice, I expect McGahee to have an even more affective season. Rice and McGahee should fit together nicely as McGahee is more of a slasher and Ray Rice is more of a north and south power runner. Still with questions at QB and WR look for the offense to still struggle (though they should be better then last year).

Defense:
This defense has been good for so many years, yet they have been getting worn down, because they are always on the field. Ray Lewis is still awesome, but he is starting to get older. Still, there is so much talent on this defense that they will be one of the best in the NFL. Chris McAlister can dominate a game, and Ed Reed might be the best defensive player in the NFL. The question will still be how much this squad has to be on the field.

Overall:
The Ravens are heading in the right direction, but are still in a rebuilding phase (unless they get Favre). As usual, they are in a major transition on offense, and with a tough schedule, I don't see them improving their record too much from last season.

Predicted Record:
6-10

2007 Record: 10-6

Key Additions:
Rashard Mendenhall (RB) - Draft - Illinois
Limas Sweed (WR) - Draft - Texas
Mewelde Moore (RB) - FA - Vikings
Justin Hartwig (G) - FA - Panthers

Key Losses:
Cedrick Wilson (WR) - FA - Not Signed
Allen Rossum (CB) - FA - 49ers
Alan Faneca (G) - FA - Jets
Clark Haggans (LB) - FA - Cardinals

I hate this team with all my heart, but I will try to be objective here.

Offense:
Pittsburgh had the 3rd best running attack last year, and it looks like it just got a whole lot better with the addition of Rashard Mendenhall. I am a big Mendenhall fan, and I hate that I have to hate him now, but the combination of Willie Parker and Rashard Mendenhall will be deadly. Ben Roethlisberger is one of the toughest QBs to figure out. On one hand he is one of the best play action passers in the game. His legs get him out of a lot of trouble, and he can be very accurate even on the move. On the other hand his passing offense was ranked 22nd on the NFL, and his pocket presence can be shaky at times. He is great on the move, but sometimes doesn't give his receiver time to run their routes. That could be an even bigger problem with Faneca gone. The good news for Roethlisberger is that Heath Miller and Santonio Holmes has another year under their belts. I am not that big a fan of Holmes as a lot of people are, but he is a good deep threat that can stretch the field. The addition of Limas Sweed will be very interesting to see if he can be that 2nd or 3rd receiver that could push this team over the edge. The Steelers are going to need Hines Ward to stay healthy, and do more that his 732 yards and 7 TDs. Ward is now 32 years old, and seems to be losing a step.

Defense:
The Steelers always put a decent defense on the field, and last year was no different as they were ranked as the #1 in total defense last year. Still there are some problems with this squad. One, is the health of Troy Polamalu. If he is not on the field this is a very different looking squad (very similar to the Pats without Harrison). Two, is the depth in the secondary, and they will need to force more interception than the 11 they forced in 2007 (fewest in the league). Overall the Steelers defense will blitz a lot, and be a pain the ass for any QB to go against.

Overall:
The Steelers have a hell of a team (I can't lie), but they also have the hardest schedule in the NFL. Still I see this team winning the division, but the big question will be if they have any energy come playoff time. Part of me says they will be battle tested and ready, but the other side of me says they will be exhausted, and be a 1st round knockout.

Predicted Record: 11-5

2007 Record: 8-8

Key Additons:
Steve Slaton (RB) - Draft - West Virginia
Duane Brown (T) - Draft - Virginia Tech
Chris Brown (RB) - FA - Titans
Nick Ferguson (CB) - FA - Broncos
Jacques Reeves (CB) - FA - Cowboys
Chris Myers (G) - Trade - Broncos

Key Losses:
Jeb Putzier (TE) - FA - Seahawks
Danny Clark (LB) - FA - Giants
Von Hitchins (CB) - FA - Falcons
Michael Boulware (CB) - FA - Vikings
Jerome Mathis (WR) - FA - Redskins
Charlie Anderson (LB) - FA - Dolphins

Offense:
The key to this team is to stay healthy. Shaub, and Green were both in and out with injuries last year. I think Shaub will have a big year this year, because Andre Johnson is one of the most underrated players in the NFL, and Green should have a much better year now that he has Slaton and Brown to back him up. Brown is a solid back and I could see him taking over the starting job, and Slaton is a great change of pace back. Slaton should also help on special teams as a returner.

Defense:
Last year this team was ranked 24th in total defense, but at least Mario Williams finally showed that he was worth a #1 draft pick. There are not a lot of big names on this defense, but they should be better this year with Williams and Okoye getting another year under their belt. There biggest problem is that they will be without Dunta Robinson for half the year, because of an ACL injury.

Overall:
I like this offense a lot, but I still have questions about their defense. Their schedule is really tough this year, so I don't expect them to make any improvement on their record. All this team really needs to is stay healthy and find a #2 WR, and some better LBs.

Predicted Record: 7-9

2007 Record: 11-5

Key Additions:
Derrick Harvey (DE) - Draft - Florida
Quentin Groves (DE) - Draft- Auburn
Troy Williamson (WR) - Trade - Vikings
Jerry Porter (WR) - FA - Raiders
Drayton Florence (CB) - FA - Chargers
Jimmy Kennedy (DT) - FA - Bears

Key Losses:
Marcus Stroud - Trade - Bills
Aaron Glenn - FA - Saints
Ernest Wilford - FA - Dolphins
Terry Cousin - FA - Browns
Sammy Knight- FA - Giants
Quinn Gray - FA - Texans

Offense:
This offense was ranked 2nd in rushing in the NFL, but 17th in passing. The rushing should still be at the top of the league with Maurice Jones-Drew and Fred Taylor in the backfield. The difference this year will be the play of the WRs. The past couple of season the Jags have had big receivers, but no play markers (other than Jimmy Smith). This year they added deep threat Troy Williamson, who I think will finally have a breakout year, since he finally has someone to throw him the ball. Plus, the added Joey Porter who, when he wants to play, is a dominant receiver. I thought the Jags were stupid to get rid of Leftwich, but Garrard has proven me wrong, so I expect alot out of this offense.

Defense:
The loss of Marcus Stroud is something that went under the radar, but they seemed to have filled the hole with the drafting of Derrick Harvey and Quentin Groves. The play of those two youngsters will determine how good this defense will be. I like the combination of Florence and Mathis in the defensive backfield, and I think this defense could actually be better then they were last year (12th in the NFL in total defense).

Overall:
The Jags are in a tough division, but this may be the year that they take it. I really like what they have done with their offense, and if they can keep Fred Taylor healthy they should have at least the same record they did last year.

Predicted Record: 12-4

2007 Record: 13-3

Key Additions:
Mike Pollak (T) - Draft- Arizona State
Philip Wheeler (LB) –Draft- Georgia Tech
Mike Hart (RB)- Draft- Michigan
Quinn Gray (QB)– FA- Jaguars

Key Losses:
Ben Utecht (TE) - FA- Bengals
Rocky Boiman (LB)- FA- Eagles

Offense:
Expect much of the same out of the Colts this season. Peyton Manning, Reggie Wayne, and Joseph Addai provide enough offense to thwart any AFC south opponent. The Colts finished fifth in total offense last season, and I expect they will finish in that general area this year. This is a deadly offensive unit that makes me uneasy, especially when they’re at the dome. The one question mark on the offense is Marvin Harrison. The future hall of famer had an injury-riddled season last year, and even when he was healthy did not pose a threat for the secondary. While the Colts showed they did not need his services, they are a much better team when Harrison is at his best. Look for Addai and Wayne to each put up big numbers, in addition to Manning. The Colts used their sixth round pick to draft Michigan standout, Mike Hart, while he will probably be slated at third on the depth chart, don’t be surprised if he starts making some noise this season.

Defense:
The Colts offense, for many years, has cast a long shadow over its less then stellar defensive counterpart. This was not the case last season. The Colts D-unit finished 1st in points allowed and 3rd in yards allowed. Much of this success is do to the fearless play of super safety, Bob Sanders. Sanders is the definition of a game-changer. When he is healthy, he is a nightmare for opposing coaches to plan against. The key for the Colts is to keep the oft-injured Sanders on the field as much as possible. They will need all of the 5-8 Sanders they can get if they plan on making their second Superbowl trip in three years.

Overall:
The Colts are scary. Really friggin scary. They are still the biggest threat to the Patriots in the AFC, and are an annual contender for the Lombardi Trophy. I would not be surprised to see these two battle it out in the AFC championship game again, and depending on where it’s played I can see it going either way. Manning is still in his prime, and with Wayne, Harrison, Clark, and Gonzalez to throw to, his options are endless.

Predicted Record: 12-4 (Difficult Schedule prevents them from a 14-2 campaign.)

2007 Record: 10-6

Key Additions:
Chris Johnson (RB) - Draft - East Carolina
Jason Jones (DE) - Draft - Eastern Michigan
Alge Crumpler (TE) - FA - Falcons
Jake Scott (G) - FA - Colts
Justin McCareins (WR) - FA - Jets
Jevon Kearse (DE) - FA - Eagles

Key Losses:
Eric Moulds (WR) - FA - Not Signed
Ben Troupe (TE) - FA - Buccaneers
Chris Brown (RB) - FA - Texans
Benji Olson (OL) - Retired

Offense:
Is this the year that Vince Young finally breaks out? Yea, I think so...He finally has a tight end to throw to with the signing of Alge Crumpler. Remember not too long ago when Vick used to only throw to Crumpler? The only difference here is that Vince Young is a more accurate passer, and has better talent around him. Gage and Williams improved throughout the year in 2007, and this year they should be even better with another year under their belts, plus the addition of Justin McCareins. Even with all of that talent, their bread and butter is the running game. Obviously Young can run, but LenDale White had a good year in 2007 running for 1,110 yards. The key for him will be to stay healthy. Even if he doesn't I have heard nothing but great things about Chris Johnson, and from what I am reading don't be shocked if they end up splitting carries for most of the year. I predicted Johnson will get the bulk of the carries by seasons end.

Defense:
Not a lot fo improve on here, they were 5th in the league in total defense last year, and with the addition of Jevon Kearse they look like they could be better. The Titans are great at stopping the run, and are just one of those squads that are very opportunistic, as they were tied for 2nd in the NFL in interception. So much talent on this side of the ball with Kearse, Haynesworth, Bulluck, and Griffin.

Overall:
They have a tough schedule, and are in a tough division, but I expect this team to do great things this year. Vince Young is going to have his breakout year, and I really believe in this running game that they have built, but the thing that is going to put them in the playoffs is this defense. Look for them to be in the top 3 in defense by the end of the year.

Predicted Record: 11-5

Key Additions:

Boss Bailey (LB) - FA - Lions
Darrell Jackson (WR) - FA - 49ers

Ryan Clady (T) - Draft - Boise State

Key Losses:
Javon Walker (WR)- FA - Raiders
Ebenezer Ekuban (DE) - FA - Raiders
Nick Ferguson (CB) - FA - Texans
Jason Elam (K) - FA - Falcons
Travis Henry (RB) - FA - Not Signed
John Lynch (SS) - FA - Not Signed

Offense:
I love Jay Cutler and really think he is something special. They figured out why he was getting worn out (diabetic), so with that under control I expect this to be a breakout year for him. The problem is that he will be without Brandon Marshall for the first three game due to suspension, and lost Travis Henry, because he is nuts. Still, I think they have enough talent at the WR position to get through the first three games. The Broncos always seem to be able to find some kind of running back, so expect Selvin Young or Andre Hall to have a solid year. Ex-Patriot Daniel Graham has found his way on this team, and he is a very good blocker with decent (at best) hands.

Defense:
This defense was horrible last year letting up 336 yards a game (19th in the NFL). The biggest problem is that they couldn't stop the run. This is where the trade for Dewayne Robertson was so very important. He will help stop the run,and if they can control the run, their defensive backfield should have a field day with Champ Bailey and Dre' Bly.

Overall:
I think this is the year the Broncos finally put the pieces together for the first time since the Elway era. Cutler has a cannon for an arm, and this should be his breakout year, and the defense looks like it could be a lot better with the signing of Robertson. I know it is only one players, but with the CBs that they have on their roster, that may be all they need.

Wade Smith (T) - FA - Jets

Key Losses:
Eddie Kennison (WR)- FA - Not Signed
Ty Law (CB) - FA - Not Signed
Keyaron Fox (LB) - FA - Steelers

Offense:
Brodie Croyle had a terrible 2007 season, and the Chiefs offense was ranked 31st in the NFL. What was shocking was that they were dead last in rushing, yet they have one of the best running backs in the league. Larry Johnson was injury prone last year, and struggled since no team respected Croyle enough to not put 8 to 9 guys in the box to stop the run. The Chiefs have some talent on offense, obviously Larry Johnson is a stud, but they also have Dwayne Bowe and Tony Gonzalez. The question is how long will it take the Chiefs to develop Croyle, and the offensive line.

Defense:
There are some names on this defense, but that doesn't mean that they are good. Patrick Surtain in their starting CB, and he is not what he was when he was with the Dolphins a couple years back. Draft pick Brandon Flowers should help in the defensive backfield but still this is a team that can be passed on easily. The hope is that Glenn Dorsey can stay healthy and dominate like he did while he was at LSU. Derrick Johnson I think is a stud, but still this defense has too many holes to carry this team

Overall:
This is one of the youngest teams in the NFL, and they will play like it. I believe they are heading the the right direction, but are still a couple years away from making any real impact. At least they still play in one of the hardest stadiums to win in the NFL.

Predicted Record: 5-11

Key Losses:

Josh McCown (QB) - FA - Dolphins

Daunte Culpepper (QB) - FA - Not Signed (Worst QB EVER!!!)
Tim Dwight (WR) - FA - Not Signed
Warren Sapp (DT) - Retired
LaMont Jordan (RB) - FA- Patriots
Fabian Washington (CB) - Trade - Ravens

Offense:
This could be one of the youngest and more explosive offenses in the NFL. Darren McFadden is a stud, and he will be much like Adrian Peterson of the Vikings, the only problem is that he doesn't have near as good of a offensive line. Fargas proved to be a decent back last year, and he will be a nice change of pace back for McFadden. Finally we will be able to see what JaMarcus Russell can do. We know he has a rocket for an arm, but can he learn the playbook and make good reads against complex NFL defensive schemes. I think he will have an up and down year, as most first year starting QBs usually do. Javon Walker was a terrible signing and has looked terrible in camp. He even wanted to retire and Al Davis convinced him to stay. Ronald Curry is their #2, but I'm sorry he is not going to be able to carry this team.

Defense:
Last year the Raiders defense was 8th against the pass in the NFL, but was also 31st against the rush. The big problem was that they couldn't get off the field since the offense was so terrible. Once again they should be good against the pass, but I still don't see them being able to stop the run. In a division that has Larry Johnson, Tomlinson, and who ever the Broncos want to trot out there, stopping the run is kind of a big deal. Al Davis might want to look into getting some LBs instead of WRs with bad knee problems (Walker).

Overall:
This is a team that is still a couple years away. Al Davis needs to die for this team to really make a push. McFadden will give them some excitement, but Russell is not ready to take this offense and make it real dangerous. Still, at least offensively they seem to be heading in the right direction. The defense will still be on the field a lot, and they can't stop the run, so it looks like this will be another long season for Raider Nation.

2007 Record: 11-5

Key Additions:
Antoine Cason (CB) - Draft - Arizona
Jacob Hester (RB) - Draft - LSU
Derek Smith (LB) - FA - 49ers

Key Losses:
Lorenzo Neal (FB) - FA - Ravens
Marlon McCree (CB) - FA - Broncos
Micheal Turner (RB) - FA - Falcons
Drayton Florence (CB) - FA - Jaguars

Offense:
The Chargers have had one of the best offenses for a couple years now, though last year they had a tough time ranking 20th in offense. Expect Philip Rivers to continue to get better, especially with Chris Chambers at WR to help him out. Tomlinson is the best RB in the NFL, but many people worry that he will not be the same without Turner there to back him up. I don't think this will be the case as Hester (one of my favorite college players) is a hell of a short yardage back, and should be able to pick up the slack. Antonio Gates is a stud, and if he can stay healthy this offense should be fine.

Defense:
All around this is a very solid defense. Merriman is a freak (well maybe because of steroids), and he will be running wild again this season. Antonio Cromartie is a hell of a defensive back, and really might be one of the only lock down corners coming into this 3rd year in the NFL. This defense led the league in interceptions and turnover differential. I see them having similar success in 2008.

Overall:
I hate this team with all my heart, because I am a Patriots fan, but you can't deny how good they really are. The question is not whether or not they will make the playoffs, but how far they can actually go. I'm sorry, but I still don't see this team taking down teams like the Patriots, and Colts. They also have a tough schedule in which they play the Patriots, Steelers, and Colts. Still, this is a very dangerous team and if they were in the NFC they would be in the Super Bowl.

Predicted Record: 12-4

2007 Record: 13-3

Key Additions:
Zach Thomas (MLB) - FA - Dolphins
Pacman Jones (CB) - Trade - Titans
Felix Jones (RB) - Draft - Arkansas
Mike Jenkins (CB) - Draft - South Florida

Key Losses:
Nathan Jones (CB) - FA - Dolphins
Julius Jones (RB) - FA - Seahawks
Keith Davis (S) - FA - Dolphins
Jacques Reeves (CB) -FA - Texans

Offense:
Tony Romo is going to put up stats since he has nothing but talent around him. Last year the Cowboys were ranked 3rd in the NFL in total offense, and this year should be no different. Witten is arguably the best tight end in the game, and Romo seems to be very fond of him. Owens is obviously stud, but needs to watch his off the field issues, and dropped passes. Crayton came into his own last year, and I think he can be a very solid player for this team. The combination of Marion Barber and Felix Jones should be something special to watch. I love the way that barber plays and if he can stay healthy, he will have a special year. Overall this offense in the weak NFC is going to dominate.

Defense:
Think all of the talent is on the offense? Think again. DeMarcus Ware is one of the scariest OLBs in the game. Now they have added Zach Thomas to the middle of their defense, and if he can stay healthy look for them to dominate against the run. The real questions come when talking about thier defensive backs. Pacman is overrated, I don't care what anyone says, and he is going to get exposed unless Roy Williams learns how to defend the pass. Newman is solid, but has been battling injuries all camp, so you have to wonder if this team can get hurt against the pass.

Overall:
No question this team will be in the playoffs, but will Romo choke again? There is also some cause for concern with the personalities in the locker room. Owens/Pacman are nuts, Romo is always in the spotlight because of Jessica Simpson, and their coach is a pushover and probably a year away from being fired. Even with all that they will dominate the NFC.

Keith O'Neil (LB) - Retired
Jared Lorenzen (QB) - FA - Colts (amazing player)
William Joseph (DT) - FA - Raiders
Kawika Mitchell (LB) - FA - Bills
Gibril Wilson (S) - FA - Raiders

Offense:
As a Pats fan it kills me to write this post, but here we go. Eli Manning wen through a lot of shit to get to where he is, and oddly enough it was when Shockey got hurt that he turned it around. Maybe now that the pressure is off, and he has a ring he will reach his potential in stats. Still, I don't see it happening. "Well Dressed" Amani Toomer has had a great career, but he is like 100 years old, and Burress is all banged up already. Mario Manningham has talent, but it will take a while before he can be a starter, so actually I could see this passing attack struggle much like it did during last season when it was ranked 21st overall. So, they will have to rely on their seemingly never ending supply of running backs. Last year they were the 4th best rushing attack int he NFL, and I think they will have the same kind of success. I actually really like Brandon Jacobs and would like to see what he can do if he can stay healthy for a whole season. The loss of Shockey is not that big of a deal, because youngster Kevin Bass looked great in the playoffs and could be a sleeper for the Giants this year.

Defense:
The loss of Strahan/Wilson will hurt the Giants. I think Kenny Philips is going to be a very good player, but he is a rookie and will go through his struggles. Sammy knight is a good player, but not as good as Wilson, so it will be interesting to see if the Giants can overcome it. Even without Strahan the Giants have a very strong defensive line, that will make QBs lives hell.

Overall:
A lot to live up to after their Super Bowl win last year, but they are in the hardest division in the NFC, so I think they are going to have a tough time. Some of the pieces are there, but it gong to take a year or two to get back to the NFC championship or Super Bowl. So my bold prediction is that they won't make the playoffs, and I hope you all believe I didn't just say that because I am a Pats fan.

Predicted Record: 9-7 (just missing the playoffs)

Key Losses:
Jevon Kearse (DE) - FA - Titans
William James (CB) -FA - Bills
Reno Mahe (RB) - FA - Not Signed
Takeo Spikes (LB) - FA - 49ers

Offense:
The Eagles will have the same offense they always seem to have (other than the T.O. year), and that is an offense that succeeds on short passes and a lot of Brian Westbrook. Last year Westbrook had a hell of a year rushing for 1,333 yards and 771 yards receiving. The question is the health of McNabb and whether or not e will get any help from his WRs. Kevin Curtis is a very good WR, but he is hurt and they are not sure when they are going to get him back. That puts a lot of pressure on DeSean Jackson, and though I like him a lot, we all know that rookie WRs usually have a tough go of it. SO, it is up to Reggie Brown to pick up the pieces. He has shown signs that he could be very good, but I am sorry I am not a believer, so Westbrook better have a hell of a year again.

Defense:
This defense loves to blitz, but did not get turnovers last year. The Eagles were tied for 30th in the NFL in interceptions, but that should change with Asante Samuel joining the team. He is a gambler and can make some keys plays for this team. Brian Dawkins is still a beast, but he seems to be slowing down a bit. There are not a lot of big names on this squad, but they always seem to put it together and I could see them doing it again in 2008.

Overall:
The Eagles will be solid, but they really miss having more weapons on offense (especially at WR). So, I expect McNabb to have a tough year, and I think this will also be his last in Philly. The defense will keep them in games, but they are in such a tough division that I just don't see them above .500.

Predicted Record: 6-10

Mark Brunell (QB) - FA - Saints
Keenan McCardell (WR) - FA - Not Signed
Sean Taylor (S) - Dead

Offense:
The Redskins entire 2008 season is going to be on the shoulders of Jason Campbell. This is the due or die year for him, but I real like this kid and think he is going to come through for the Redskins. Clinton Portis (when healthy) is one of the best running backs in the league, and that should take the pressure off Campbell. The Redskins drafted some nice WRs, but they will probably take a couple years to develop, but they should be able to get some touched behind Santana Moss, and Antwaan Randle El. The most underrated player on this team is Chris Cooley, and even though the Redskins WRs are sub par, having Cooley should let them take advantage of their play action attack.

Defense:
Even with the death of Taylor, the Redskins still have a very good defensive backfield. Springs is slowing down at age 33, but is still one of the best DBs in the league. Smoot is solid, but Landry is an absolute stud. Now that the Redskins have a pass rusher in Jason Taylor I expect the Redskins to force a lot of turnovers, and with London Fletcher at MLB I really think this is a very strong squad.

Overall:
The Redskins play in a tough division, but I think they will have a better season than the Giants and Eagles. Campbell will be very good if these rookie WRs can contribute, and look for Portis to have another great year. The addition of Taylor I think will be the difference with this team. I expect to see this team in the playoffs in 2008.

Adam Archuleta (S) - FA - Not Signed
Brendon Ayanbadejo (LB) - FA - Ravens
Darwin Walker (DT) - FA - Panthers

Offense:
Finally the Bears have stopped start Rex Grossman, who very well may be the worst QB of all time. The problem is they are not replacing him with much. Orton will not turn the ball over, but he also can't carry this offense. The only chance this team has to score point is with rookie Matt Forte, and Devin Hester. We all know Hester will run a few back on kickoff/punt returns, but he has not been able to prove that he can be a game breaking receiver, and it will be tough to be one with Kyle Orton at QB. I like Forte, but this offensive line isn't very good, and defenses are going to be stacked up against the run. This is going to be another tough year for the Bears moving the ball.

Defense:
The Bears defense is always good, but they are going to be on the field all the time again, since this offense is one of the worst in the league. Last year, the Bears were ranked 28th in the NFL in total defense, and now are having injury problems. Being on the field all the time will kill this defensive unit, and wear out their stars (Urlacher). If the Bears had a good offense this would be a top 10 defense, but since they are terrible I think that they bears will once again be on the bottom 3rd in the NFL for total defense.

Overall:
Nothing good is going to happen for the Bears in 2008. They really made a mistake not draft a QB, and resigning Rex Grossman. The defense is good, but they will not be able to carry this team, so look for them to have one of the worst records in the NFL.

Offense:
Last year the Lions could pass the ball, but their rushing attack was 2nd worst in the league. Now with Martz gone, the Lions should have a more balanced attack. Even though I think Drew Stanton should be starting, Kitna is a solid QB, and he has plenty of talented WRs around him. Roy Williams is in contract year, so I expect a big year out of him, and Calvin Johnson looked good in his rookie campaign and should be even better this year. So, the only real questions are whether or not this offensive line can protect Kitna, and make some running lanes for Kevin Smith. If the Lions can't get a balanced attack, it will be another year without a winning record.

Defense:
The Lions had the worst total defense in the league last year. I blame some of it on Martz since the offense was always throwing the ball, and the defense couldn't catch their breathe. Still, there is not much talent on this defense. Leigh Bodden is an underrated playmaker, and hopefully the addition of him and Kelly will give the defense the playmaking ability that they lost when they traded away Dre Bly.

Overall:
The Lions have some talent, and in the weak NFC it doesn't take much to make the playoffs. This year the Lions will be right there, but I am still not sold they will make it. Maybe if they just listened to be and started Drew Stanton they would.

Key Losses:
Brett Favre (QB) - Trade - Jets
Bubba Franks (TE) - FA - Jets
Frank Walker (DB) - FA - Ravens

Offense:
There are some questions for the Packers on offense for the 2008 season. The obvious one is how will Aaron Rodgers do, and how will handle the pressure of taking a place of the legend that is Brett Favre? Well if preseason showed us anything, it showed us that he certainly looked like a guy who can handle anything. I really believe in Rodgers. People give Brett Favre too much credit for what he did last year, and forget that it was actually the Packers WRs that made the plays. The WRs led the league in YAC (years after catch), and I would expect more of the same, as long as Rodgers can get them the ball (which I think he will). The other question on this offense is if they can find the same magic in the running game that they found at the end of the 2007 season. Grant is back, but is hurt, and missed much of training camp. I really think we are going to see a lot of Brandon Jackson, but both will struggle early in the season, as most defense will not respect Rodgers. Looks for the RBs to put up better stats as the season goes on.

Defense:
This was one of the best defenses in the NFL last year, and I think we will see them be just as good this year. Charles Woodson (even though I hate him) is one of the best CBs in the league, and Al Harris isn't far behind. A.J. Hawk looked great last year, and should only get better. I am a big fan of this defense and I think they will have a very solid year, and cause even more turnovers this year.

Overall:
I don't think they will win 13 games again, but I do think they will make the playoffs. Minnesota is going to be very good this year, and these two team will battle it out for the NFC North division lead. Oh yea, and I took Rodgers in my fantasy league, because that's how much I believe in this kid.

Offense:
The Vikings have one of the best runningback combos in the NFL with Peterson and Taylor. Peterson has an unbelievable rookie season, and some people he could be even better this year if the Vikings can get some kind of passing attack going. Sorry, I don't see that happening, so look for Peterson and Taylor to have their work cut out for them. Maybe I am just negative, but I really think Peterson is going to get hurt this year. He was injury prone in college, and I have a sick feeling it is going to come back to bite him this year. Still, this unit was ranked #1 in rushing last year, and they will be in the top 5 again this season. The problem last year was that their passing attack was ranked 28th in the NFL, and I think they will be inthe same area again.

Defense:
This very well could be the best defense in the NFL. They already had two of the best defensive linemen in the NFL in Pat and Kevin Williams, and now they have added Jared Allen. This all adds up to teams having a really hard time running the ball on them, and Allen is known for getting to the QB. I sill have some questions about their DBs, but with a defensive line like that, they will look a lot better than they actually are.

Overall:
This team is really a QB and a WR from being a top team in the NFL. They will be in a lot of tight games, so I could really see them winning anywhere from 8-10 games, but I am going right in the middle just because I don't trust Tarvaris Jackson.

Offense:
The Carolina Panthers have been a disappointment for years now. This year will be no different. Stewart flew under the radar and off peoples draft board’s this past spring. Last Season at Oregon, Stewart rushed for over 1700 yards and 11 touchdowns. He will serve as a great compliment to starter DeAngelo Williams, until Stewart takes over the top spot on the depth chart. Jeff Otah is an upgrade at left tackle and will be the anchor of this unit for years to come. Delhomme is Delhomme, he is a gunslinger. One thing I will say about Delhomme is that he can rally the troops and move the chains when the game is on the line. His primary target, Steve Smith, will miss the first two games of the season for punching his teammate in the grill. Dumb move on his part, and an even dumber move by the Panthers organization. 1 Game would have given Smith plenty of time to reflect on his actions. Smith’s absence leaves the door open for former USC standout, Dwayne Jarrett, a chance to show he can play with big dogs. Will he deliver? Doubtful.

Defense:
Carolina did not allow a single fourth down conversion last season. Unfortunately they struggled to stop teams on first, second, and third down. Julius Peppers is a freak and often draws two to three offensive lineman and can be rendered useless by a strong blocking scheme. The linebackers are aging, and the secondary is developing. The Panthers won’t be a threat to anyone’s post season plans.

Overall:
Carolina has the talent to be a 10-6 team. Injuries, inexperience, and idiot coaching will ultimately cause this team to miss the playoffs again. I am excited to see what Stewart can do at the pro level, but the truth is, New Orleans, Tampa Bay, and possibly Atlanta all have better running backs. The outlook is bleak for Carolina, but hopefully they bring back Vinny T for another whirl.

Key Additions:
Matt Ryan (QB) - Draft - Boston College
Sam Baker (T) - Draft - USC

Erik Coleman (DB) - FA - Jets
Rashad Moore (DT) - FA - Patriots
Kindal Moorehead (DE) - FA - Panthers

Key Losses:
Byron Leftwich (QB) - FA - Steelers
Lewis Sanders (DB) - FA - Patriots
Alge Crumpler (TE) - FA - Titans
Demorrio Williams (LB) - FA - Chiefs
Warrick Dunn (RB) - FA - Buccaneers

Offense:
Basically the Falcons will be starting from scratch. I love the Ryan pick, and I really believe he will be an elite QB in this league in about 3 years. The problem is they have no offensive line, their WRs are questionable at best, and their best offensive player (Michael "the burner" Turner has to prove he can carry a full work load. Losing Crumpler is a tough loss for Ryan, because we all know that a good pass catching tight end can be a nice safety net for a young QB.

Defense:
The Falcons have some good LBs, but that's about it. Their secondary is going to be horrid, and the defensive line isn't much better. So, I guess since I am being so negative I will point out why you should watch this defense. OLB Michael Boley is one of the most underrated players in the NFL, and I think he is a star in the making.

Overall:
I really liked what the Falcons did with the draft, but this team is still just so far away from being anything resembling good. I feel bad for Ryan, but at least they have some pieces for the future.

Predicted Record: 2-15

2007 Record: 7-9

Key Additions:
Sedrick Ellis (DT) - Draft - USC
Tracy Porter (CB) - Draft - Indiana
Jeremy Shockey (TE) - Trade - Giants
Bobby McCray (DE) - FA - Jaguars
Jonathan Vilma (LB) - Trade - Jets
Dan Morgan (LB) - FA - Panthers
Mark Brunell (QB) - FA - Redskins
Aaron Glenn (DB) - FA - Jaguars
Matt Lehr (G) - FA - Buccaneers
Randall Gay (CB) - FA - Patriots

Key Losses:
Olindo Mare (K) - FA - Dolphins
Eric Johnson (TE) - FA - Not Signed
Jeff Faine (C) - FA - Buccaneers
Matt McCoy (LB) - FA - Buccaneers

Offense:
This offense was a disappointment last year, and it was not because of the passing game. It was because Reggie Bush is not an ever down back, and when Deuce McAllister went down, Bush was pushed into a position he can't handle. Now, if Duece can come back healthy this offense could be in the top 5 in the NFL. Brees is a stud, and a warrior, look for him to be one of the best QBs in the league. Colston has emerged as a great #1 receiver, and everyone knows that I love David Patten. Patten gives them a sure handed receiver while Devery gives them a deep threat. All around one of the most dangerous offenses in all the NFL, but Duece needs to stay healthy.

Defense:
This might be one of the most improved defenses in the NFL. The question is whether or not they will gel together in time to make an impact this season. Dan Morgan and
Jonathan Vilma are a big upgrade over anything they had. Gay is a very solid nickel back, so I expect this team to be ranked a lot higher than 26th, which is what they were ranked last year in total defense.

Overall:
This team could be awesome this year. I hate to say that it comes down to one guy, but it kinda does. Duece has to stay healthy to provide balance on this offense. I think and will, and I expect big things from the Saints this year.

Predicted Record: 11-5

2007 Record: 9-7

Key Additions:
Aqib Talib (CB) - Draft - Kansas
Dexter Jackson (WR) - Draft - Appalachian State
John Faine (C) - FA - Saints
John Gilmore (TE) - FA - Bears
Jimmy Wilkerson (DE) - FA - Chiefs
Brian Griese (QB) - Trade - Bears
Matt McCoy (LB) - FA - Saints
Ben Troupe (TE) - FA - Titans
Warrick Dunn (RB) - FA - Falcons
Eugene Wilson (DB) - FA - Patriots

Key Losses:
Matt Lehr (G) - FA - Saints
Brian Kelly (CB) - FA - Lions
John Wade (C) - FA - Raiders

Offense:
I am a big Jeff Garcia fan, but he is just getting too banged up, plus he is really old now (38). He is a warrior, but I am just not that thrilled with what he has around him. Earnest Graham was a nice surprise lkast year, but I don't think he is going to have the same success this year. Galloway continues to surprise me, but he is another health risk, and their other WR Ike "the spike" Hilliard is like 300 years old, so overall I really don't trust this offense, because all they really did in the offseason was add another aging RB in Warrick Dunn.

Defense:
This defense was unreal last year, and were the main reason that they were an above .500 team. The problem is just like the offense they are getting very old, and you have to wonder how long they will be able to hold on before the wheels start coming off. Brooks is amazing, but just like Garcia and Galloway, his best years are behind them. They will still be a very tough team to throw on (ranked #1 last year against the pass), but I have questions about this defense as a whole.

Overall:
I hated what this team did this offseason, as they did not get younger, and I was also not a fan of their draft picks. This is a team that could win 9-10 games again, but I think age/injuries will get the best of them.

Predicted Record: 6-10

Arizona

2007 Record: 8-8

Offense should be very good this year, since they have finally decided to put Warner as the QB (yea, I hate him too, and his wife with her dyke haircut). The Cardinals probably have the best 1,2 combination at WR in the NFL, and that makes them very dangerous every week. Many people didn't notice that Warner threw for 27 TDs last year, and I actually believe he will have more this season. The question is if they can squeeze another year out of Edge. That I very much question, and I also think this defense is very shaky, so once again this will not be an elite team.

Predicted Record: 7-9

San Francisco 49ers

2007 Record: 5-11

I don't know if anyone has noticed, but this team is just awful. Frank Gore is solid, but he won't be able to carry this team. They have a lot of young guys, but the fact that Alex Smith is a complete bust has sent them back 3-5 years. Now, they have Martz running this offense, and what does he like to do? That's right, throw, and guess what this team can't do...throw. The WRs aren't that bad, but I have no faith J.T. O'Sullivan. They defense is very solid, and will keep them in games. Too bad they will be on the field all game.

Predicted Record: 3-13

Seattle Seahawks

2007 Record: 10-6

Now that they got that waste of space Alexander off the team, this team will be ready to make a jump back into the league of elite NFC teams. Hasselbeck is a stud, and I like all their options at running back. Morris and Jones can carry the load, and can catch passes (something Alexander could never do), while Duckett gives them a great goal line presence. I have some questions about their WRs as they have lost Bobby Engram to injury. Still, I think this team has a good enough defense to hold it together as they make a push towards the playoffs.

Predicted Record: 12-4

St. Louis Rams

2007 Record: 3-13

One of the worst teams in the NFL last year is looking to turn it around this year. Jackson ended his holdout, so that was the best news they could have gotten. The real question is whether this offensive line can protect Bulger. He is a good QB, and they have talent at WY, but if they don't have time to run their routes then they are useless. The defense is nothing special, but Chris Long should help that out some. If the "greatest show on turf" can't come back then this will be another sub par season.

Predicted Record: 7-9
