Cabin Fever

Wow, this episode delivered on all fronts as Lost keeps getting better and better. We see guys who have been dead for 12 years, the return of Christian Shepperd again, and the really creepy Matthew Abbadon. I mean right there nuff said. Meanwhile, right after this recap of "Cabin Fever", I've posted a link to a website that really explains the time travel theory regarding Lost. Check it out it is pretty interesting stuff, and can explain stuff better then I can since I couldn't even pass high school chemistry. But 1st lets look back on Cabin Fever.
1st story
This episode we are treated to it being Locke-centric, and revolves around a flashback that touches on a few important events throughout Locke's life as he grows up. The story starts with a young girl named Emily, who is fighting with her mother about dating a guy twice her age (she appears about 16-18 years old at this time). Emily runs from the house after fighting with her mother, and in the process gets hit by an oncoming car. They rush her to the hospital, while she admits she is also pregnant and consequently has to give birth, to who we now all know as John Locke. The nurses refer to John as the "miracle baby", as he is the youngest baby to ever survive their as well as fighting off numerous infections. Yet, this doesn't make much of a difference to young Emily who wont even hold John, and already plans are in the works to put John up for adoption. We then see a man watching this all go down through a window looking into the hospital room. Finally the reappearance of the person who never gets older Richard Alpert, who was last seen on the island heading to the Temple in the season 3 series finale. Seems Ben isn't the only one of the others that like to time travel. The story skips ahead to when John is about 8-10 years old with his new adopted family. Richard once again pays him a visit, under the disguise that he works for a special school and wants to test John. As he comes into the house, we see John playing backgammon (him and Walt used to play the game all the time in season one), as Richard also notices a drawing young John did that hangs on the wall of the house, which shows an image much like the smoke monster attacking a person. Holy shit this is gonna be good! So Richard then spreads out some items on the coffee table and asks John to identify the one item that already belongs to him. Of significant interest among the items he put out were sand in a vile (sand from the island?), a book of laws (the rules that govern the Others?), a magazine called Amazing Stories (that showed a picture on the cover called hidden land, and had a cloud underneath what looked like a city. Now I remember somewhere in season one Walt used to read the magazine Amazing Stories, I remember on that one it had polar bears on it, anyone remember that?), and a hunting knife. John, after careful consideration, picks the knife. This pisses Richard off and he storms out of the house, saying John was wrong. Now I am not sure exactly what happened there. He could have been right since John is a hunter and always has knives with him, and Richard just wanted to test him. Yet, it seemed to me in my opinion that while John is a hunter, Richard expects more from him, that's not who he is, kinda like John belongs to the island since the connection is so strong between the two. Anyways, the story skips ahead to when John is in high school and gets picked on by all the kids. A guidance counselor meets with John and tells him he has great news. A company called Mittelos Labratories (the same company that recruited Juliet with Richard leading the way)that specialized in chemistry and new technology in Portland Oregon was very interested in him and wanted him to go to summer camp there. This upset John, as he didn't want to be a scientist, he liked sports and fishing and all that good stuff. Just another example of John fighting his destiny in a way I feel. Finally, the story skips ahead to when John is rehabbing after being paralyzed by being pushed by his father out the high story window. He is in some rehab hospital being pushed around in a wheelchair by an orderly. Except this isn't just an orderly, this is Matthew Abbadon, who we 1st saw earlier this season as a guy who visited Hurley in the mental ward of Santa Rosa pretending to be an Oceanic lawyer. At that time, he was asking Hurley if they were alive back on the island. We also saw him briefly when they did a little flashback concerning Naomi, before she departed for the island. Now this guy is really creepy, his eyes bug me out more then even Ben, which is saying alot. Abbadon tells John to believe in miracles, that one happened to him. But here is the really cool part. We learn Abbadon is the one who suggested Locke go on a thing called a walkabout down in Australia. The walkabout is a balls to the walls hunting safari down there. We know Locke of course signed up for this, only to be denied once the group leader saw that he was paralyzed. Of course this set in motion why Locke then got on Oceanic flight 815, leaving Australia in dismay. Abbadon tells John at the time he will owe him one when he sees him next time. Wow!
Story2
The menage trois couple of Hurley, Ben, and Locke are aimlessly searching for the ever elusive Jacob cabin out in the jungle. They set up camp for the night and crash, as Locke has a really important dream. In it, he runs into Horace. He of course is one of the old Dharma Initiatives that were killed off by Ben during the purge. In fact he has been dead about 12 years he tells Locke. Horace is cutting down trees to build a cabin, which John realizes is Jacob's cabin as well. Horace tells John that he has to find him, and in doing so he will find the cabin. Well John knows exactly where to find Horace, as remember Ben showed him where the pit was of all the Dharma people they killed after they gassed them. Of course, he also knows where the pit is as this was the site Ben shot Locke and left him for dead in the season finale of season 3. John leads them back to the pit, and finds a map leading to the Cabin in Horace's pocket of his shirt. Locke now gives Hurley the option to leave, since they now know the way to the cabin, but Hurley decides to stay with them instead of going dangerously off on his own across the island back to the beach. Ben snickers to Locke how great he handled that, Hurley actually thinks it was his choice to stay. We are first starting to see some of the bitterness Ben has in essence because he has been replaced by Locke. Ben was the chosen one, he was the one that was special, now that is stowed upon Locke. Yet, Ben warns Locke being the chosen one has consequences, that destiny is a "fickle bitch". One can't argue that point with Ben, I mean he got a tumor and saw his daughter die right in front of him, things haven't gone that well for him! Any who, they find the cabin and Locke is the only one to go inside because he is now the chosen one. Inside, he finds not Jacob, but Christian Shepperd and Claire! Christian tells John not to tell anyone that Claire is inside, they wouldn't understand. He then goes on to tell John that the freighter people are coming back to the island and tells him that the way to save the island, is to move the island. John stumbles out of the love cabin to find Ben and Hurley sharing a candy bar in a nice tender moment between the two as he relays the message to them.
Story 3
Meanwhile, back on the freighter, the mercenaries get back from their fight with the smoke monster to find that the doctor yes is still alive and doing great. Keamy is irate because he knows someone gave him up to Ben since Ben knew all about Keamy. At first he thinks it's the captain, but the captain tells him all about Michael. Keamy beats down Michael and empties his gun at Michael's head. The problem is the gun jammed, which isn't a surprise. Michael can't die right now, as we saw when he tried to commit suicide earlier and that gun jammed as well. Enraged, Keamy then takes a second key from the captain (he has the other key) to open a safe in the captain's quarters. Inside the safe, he finds what is called the secondary protocol, which comes directly from Charles Widmore. This protocol tells Keamy where Ben is supposedly heading, because Ben knows it is the only place on the island that is safe because Keamy plans to "torch" the island. Oh my! Also, I could swear i thought I made out a Dharma logo on the cover of the secondary protocol dossier. Well this upsets the captain, as this was supposed to be an extraction mission so he decides to give Sayid and Desmond the zodiak raft to get their people off the island to save them. Desmond ultimately decides to stay on the freighter, because he has vowed to never step foot on the island again, which leaves the job squarely to Sayid as he takes off back to the island following the coordinates 305 of course. The situation of the freighter continues to become worse though. Keamy and his thugs are loading serious weapons into the helicopter for an all out assault on the island. When the helicopter pilot Frank Lapidus sees then, he refuses to fly them to the island, a major blow to Keamy as this guy is the only pilot on the boat. So Keamy being the thug he is, slashes the doctor's throat and throws him overboard (ahhh so that's how). The captain comes out of no where with a gun pointed at Keamy telling him to stand down, but this is when the captain realizes Keamy is wearing some time of gadget strapped to his arm, which Keamy warns shooting him wouldn't be a good idea with him wearing this. The captain demands to know what it is, temporarily being distracted as Keamy uses his chance and blows away the poor captain. Frank realizes he has to fly them or more people are going to get killed so he reluctantly agrees. Yet Frank is able to jam what looks like a GPS into a backpack that tells the location of the helicopter. When Frank flies back to the island, he flies straight over the beach where the gang is staying and throws them the backpack. Oh man I can't wait for next week already! Next weeks episode is called There's No Place Like Home" -- The first part of the three-hour finale begins with a showdown between the castaways and the freighter folk. Airs Thursday, May 15, 2008 at 10 p.m. on ABC. Peace
